Wilmslow Win Big

Wilmslow Win Big

Game Day Preview Reading Wilmslow Win Big 3 minutes Next A Team Defeat Leeds

It might have been Timperley A that opened the scoring but their defence couldn’t cope with Wilmslow’s firepower. The Timperley team might sit bottom of the league but seemed to have some offensive threats and a goalie who would end the game with an impressive save percentage despite being scored past 18 times throughout the match.

Timperley’s first goal was scored by ex England attacker Matt Beadle who only recently returned to the sport after more than a decade out, he is still a threat but Finn Sykes would soon get to grips with him as the game went on. The first quarter would see Wilmslow score six goals with Eastwood and Parry getting one a piece and Brooks and Chatterton getting a brace each.

Despite a positive start with Chatterton finding the net again and Simpson Pink scoring twice Wilmslow made hard work of the second quarter, the off ball defensive felt a little off focus  on a number of occasions which gave Timperley way more chances then they deserved around the Wilmslow goal. Too many rushed or forced chances from Wilmslow failed to look after the ball and the men in blue would score 1,2,3 on the bounce before Pinky snagged his 3rd of the game. For much of the first half the home team had actually dominated the face offs but towards the back end of the second period Wilmslow's Mark Bowe had figured out how to beat his opponent, Bowe's center possession to swing the game Wilmslow's way as the game progressed.

Once again the third quarter was tighter than it needed to be. Although Brooks would bag his third of the game, Timperley again when on a 3 goal run. Only Mellor would score again during the third and Wilmslow lost the quarter 2-3. Again the failure to value the ball at key times such as after a man down or with only two minutes left in the period would mean that some frustration would kick in. As said below, lessons must be learnt and we cannot continue to ignore the mistakes we make. Everyone makes mistakes and no team has ever played the perfect game but to get close to perfection you need to work harder then the other team and minimize mistakes as individuals and as a team.

After a short chat about game management and playing more as a team and not individually, Wilmslow came out in the forth quarter far more focused and with more control taking the period 6 goals to 1.

There's no doubt about it, this Wilmslow team has a ton of firepower but need to learn when to pull the trigger and when you do pull it, shorter bursts are more effective than keeping your finger on the trigger. Empty your magazine and it gives the enemy chances to shoot back!

We go again next week in a home fixture vs Mellor A.

Learning, always learning.
