A Team Defeat Leeds

Wilmslow Win Big Reading A Team Defeat Leeds 2 minutes Next Game Day Preview

A much changed Wilmslow side travelled to Leeds this weekend, facing a side high on confidence after a strong showing against Cheadle Hulme.

From the first whistle it was apparent that Wilmslow would have their work cut out for them. A very different Leeds side set the tone early, with an unforced Wilmslow error leading to a man-up opportunity. Leeds duly converted and quickly won the ensuing faceoff. That would set a trend for the day as, despite a valiant effort from Isaac Hall, Leeds dominated the face all day.

Goals were traded back and forth, Leeds benefiting from strong transition offence while Wilmslow looked reluctant at time to attack the goal.

Halftime hit with the scores tied at 5 apiece. Minimal swearing took place and we all remembered that Leeds is a grim place at the best of times, let alone when you lose a match.

A few soft penalty calls saw DOTD elect Ollie Jones in the box, but strong play from Tom Bowe slotting in at the back (Scott Marshall in attack was a power move) meant Wilmslow took and held the lead.

Despite Leeds’ Australian wooping every 3 seconds, the defence stood firm with some indecently heavy checks landing. All legal too, bit of a novelty for this some of the defensive crew.

A nervy ending saw Leeds score a couple of goals off the stick of skipper Matt Croney (curse of the OG Eclipse) but Wilmslow held on through the downpour to secure a 10-8 result.

Man of the match went to Tom Bowe whose stock continues to rise.
Dick of the day went to Ollie Jones for being unfairly victimised by his wife Katie who was one of the referees. A huge thanks should go out to Katie who has done an outstanding job for the club as a ref since Christmas.
