Sadly is wasn't to be. Cheadle A proved too string on the day for Wilmslow despite a very positive opening 10 minutes in the first quarter which saw Wimslow execute a perfect man up play that had many people baffled. Cheadle would score near the end of the period to lead 3-2.
Although Wilmslow created a few good opportunities they were eaten up by the Cheadle goalie and frustration began to set in with many attacks being rushed and becoming too predictable. That frustration was to hit the defense end on the team too, with penalties providing Cheadle with more chances than Wilmslow. Having taken a 5-2 lead at the half the Cheadle team's experience had shown and Wilmslow needed to get more possessions and convert a few chances early to get back in the game.
Cheadle pulled further ahead in the 3rd scoring 3 on the bounce before Oscar Mellor would reply. Trailing 8-3 entering the 4th quarter was a lot to ask the Wilmslow team to come back, then Cheadle would get 2 more to make it 10-3. Louis Andrews scoring a screamer for Wilmslow that gave the team a little spark and that spark led to fire. Wilmslow were out of timeouts but with just under 5 minutes left Cheadle call a timeout in which Wilmslow had a chance to except they'd not turn up for most of the match but there was time enough to still show people what we are capable of. A double team from the timeout and huge pressure from the Wilmslow defense would lead to a number of possessions late in the game that would see Perrin and Mellor pull two goals back.
A loss of 10-6 might not be what we wanted but valuable experience was learnt by all and we will be a better team for it. We now move forward to face Heaton Mersey on the 10th May for a play off game, a win would see us in the Premier division next season and Mersey relegated.
Huge to all that came and showed support.
