This coming Saturday will see two Wilmslow teams fighting to win silverware in Rochdale at the North of England Lacrosse Flags Finals
Northern Flags is one of the biggest lacrosse events in Europe and is certainly the oldest dating back to the 1883-1884 season where South Manchester beat Heaton Mersey 8-5 in the Senior Flags.
This will be the third year on the run that Wilmslow are represented at the Flags but this year is a little different as we will actually have two teams playing in finals, the men's first team will be playing in the Junior Flags Final and our ladies will face Brooklands in the women's Junior Flags.
The very fact we have two teams playing this weekend is proof of just how much we have grown and developed in over recent years. Many sports and sports clubs have struggled post pandemic but the efforts by many enthusiastic members of Wilmslow has led to us becoming one of the success stories within the North West lacrosse landscape and is fast becoming one of the biggest lacrosse clubs in Cheshire.
At midday on Saturday our ladies will face Brooklands and they have a great chance to come away with the win providing they can keep the Brooklands offensive at bay restricting their opportunities. They have worked tirelessly over the past 3 seasons to grow women's lacrosse club in and around Wilmslow and despite facing some tough opponents during the season, always play with a smile on their face and continue to learn and grow as a team.
Wilmslow first team will face off at 4pm on Saturday versus a strong Cheadle A team who are no strangers to playing in a Junior Flags Final. During the regular season they defeat each over once and only one point separated the two on head to head goal difference. It could well be one of the most exciting line ups of the weekend.
