You always know it was a frustrating game when there's no photo for the match write up and it takes a few days longer to write. There was much that happened prior to the game that controbuted to the loss. Availability was not the best with 2 players unavailable due to Wales training and one with tickets to watch International rugby, things were to get worse that morning with Seth Janaway dropping a concreate block on is foot the morning of gameday.
It would only get worse for Wilmslow that day, with Jordon Bolley suffering a freak injury in the warm up resulting in a trip to hospital. Midfielder Mark Bowe who had come to watch the game was quickly suit up, Bowe was get take many of the face offs during the game with George Widdowson dropping out of the game during the 2nd period.
Wilmslow were to open the scoring in the first quarter through Josh Simpson-Pink, the opposition quickly went up 1-3 before Simpson-Pink was to bag a second but Wacsbury got another to lead 2-4 going in to the second. Many of the Wilmslow attacks were rushed with poor shot selection, sadly a slight air of complacency had hit the team the moment players had seen that Wacsbury were missing a regular goalie, the discipline and finishing we had shown so well against just the week before had vanished.
Mellor was the only scorer during the 2nd quarter bagging goals at the front and back end of the period that would see the teams level at the half 4-4. Looking at the score now you'd think was close but most of the first half felt like one way traffic.
A slightly different Wilmslow team turned up after the half, two goals from Aaron Eastwood saw a purple patch for Wilmslow with Andrews getting one and Tom Brooks getting two in close succession. At 9-4 we seemed to have turned a corner but instead of settling possessions and patience on offense their were too many forced chances and some stick chasing defensively would lead to a run of man up opportunities for Wacsbury and that theme was to continue for the rest of the game with Wilmslow failing to find the back of the net again.
Having lead 9-4 Wilmslow lost the game 9-10, with 13 minutes in the penalty box and an inability to control the game when needed it's fair to say we made too many mistakes. You can only learn from your own mistakes...but you first need to acknowledge the mistakes you made and learn. Shaking off mistakes in a game is one thing, forgetting they happened at all and making those mistakes again is unforgivable. At one point we had survived a 3 minute man down only to give the ball away almost immediately at one of our few possessions.
We go again this week facing Timperley A for the first time this season. Timperley A sit bottom of the division with only one win so far. Wilmslow can't afford to underperform this week, win the remaining games still gives us a chance for a play off game versus the second from bottom placed Premier team at the end of the year. A chance of promotion is still on the cards but now as players and as a team we need a real show of character.
