There was no doubt Wilmslow would win this fixture. What would be important is how we won. An excellent display of disciplined offensive and a ruck of team goals, some of which were some of prettiest goals of the year. Wilmslow would win well.
The opening 20 minutes saw the home team lead 8-1, with such a dominant first quarter Wilmslow took the opportunity to add a couple of new plays which although thrown in with no previous practice were executed to perfection. Wilmslow worked the ball exceedingly well be it on fast break, unsettled play, 6 on 6 and man up. It really was a pleasure to watch so many team goals, most of which were assisted. A Wilmslow time out would also see a hidden ball play introduced that would confuse the opposition and most of the spectators, a fun goal to score up more importantly it was one of a number of new plays successfully brought in during the game by the coaching staff where players listened and executed well. By half time Wilmslow led 15-1 but took a penalty in the dying 30 seconds which meant Timperley would start the second half man up.
Timperley would take first blood in the second half score a quick goal from man up where they caught Wilmslow a little by surprise. Timperley would only score one more goal, Wilmslow scored a further 9 times to win the match 24-3.
Goal scorers as follows:
Bolley 3, Simpson Pink 6, Andrews 3, Perrin 2, Burgess 3, Mellor 4, Bowe 1, Brooks 1, Sykes 1
Next week will be the last league game of the season with a home fixture vs Stockport A. Victory would see Wilmslow flying high as they head to the Junior Flags Final at Rochdale on the 26th April with a play off game vs Heaton Mersey on Saturday 10th May for a chance of promotion to the Premier division.
Up the Slowtown!
