Wilmslow Crush Mellor A

Wilmslow Crush Mellor A

Mellor A would prove no match for Wilmslow. The opening quarter was nothing short of a blowout for the Slowtown men, proving that squad depth is better than it has been in years at the club.

Mark Bowe who has successfully made a return to first team action has proven to be a dominant force at the face off X over the past two games and this contest would be no different. Possession would go mostly to Wilmslow through Bowe's and the other middies hard graft in the center of the field.

Oscar Mellor would opening the scoring for Wilmslow within the first few minutes by literally barreling through his defender. Pinky would get the next one soon by Chatterton before Calon Stevens would score. The goal fest continued when Wilmslow called a timeout then running a well executed man up play which saw Oscar Mellor netting a second, Pinky a second, Andrews then Parry. Perrin had a perfectly good goal disallowed when there was a flag on the play but one of the refs blew the whistle even though the ball had not gone down. The opposition were to get a goal late in the quarter to make it 8-1.

During the quarter break, James Perrin must found himself a hot tub time machine! The years rolled back and he bagged himself a hattrick. The only player to score in the second period but Wilmslow still created some excellent chances and moved the ball very well in attack. Mellor saw a little more ball during the quarter but Wilmslow's defence were never really tested much so they took the opportunity to run a double team on a endline dead ball which resulted in Mellor throwing the ball away. Although Wilmslow had only had 3 goals during than second period it still felt positive as we had run longer possessions and really controlling the game.

The third quarter saw Perrin score his 4th goal, his second behind the head shot in find the target. Bowe had a bounce shot on a fast break which hit target, soon after Pinky would rifle off another to get his 3rd. This quarter saw a few man up chances for the away team, with ex England player Andy Linton scoring from up top on a mean bounce shot.  Again Wilmslow took the chance to try something out of a Mellor timeout during the 3rd where they ran a great double team and although they were successful it resulted in what can only be described as a sympathy call by one of the referees. Mellor scored again to claw one back but Burgess found the goal for Wilmslow to end the quarter 15-3. The change of goalkeeper for Mellor at halftime was one of the reasons for a lower scoring 20 minutes as he made at least 15 saves.

It can be hard to remain disciplined when playing a weaker opponent and this was Wilmslow's issue in the forth. Tunnel vision set in rather than the team play we saw in the first half. Mellor opening the scoring but that would be their last as Wilmslow got the next 3 goals from Pink, Sykes and Chatterton. With the game ending 18-4, Wilmslow's performance to mostly very good but still we have much to learn in order to be the team we want to be.
