Wilmslow Ladies vs Heaton Mersey

A bit of wind and rain couldn’t stop Wilmslow playing this weekend! Both the Women and Men’s 1sts relocated to the nice dry (and slightly slippery…) Astro at Withington Girls School.

It was predictably fast and physical game, with lots of up-and-downs, and a couple of yellow cards to boot!

Starting in the middle, Wilmslow’s drawing and circle play continues to come on leaps and bounds this season - with lots of draw control wins for Alys Johns and Becca Webb. They set us up beautifully to transition into our attack.

They worked hard on their set-up, spacing and taking good opportunities. Co-captain Kat bagged a hat-trick with some impressive dodging, and all the attack got their steps in riding the ball all the way to the restrainer. Onwards and upwards - and maybe some granola next week.

At the other end of the pitch, our defence is going from strength to strength, anchored by our super goalkeeper Kate! We identified the threats, sent the slides and caused quite a few turnovers too. After some fun switcheroos this year, our defensive unit are working hard to gel and it’s paying off!

The final score was 12-5 to Heaton Mersey, with a triple WoTM going to Alys Johns, Kate Evans and Phoebe Blakeley-Crewe.
