Stockport A have had a tough season, light on numbers and on the whole a young team. Credit to them, they have shown toughness in the two fixtures vs Wilmslow this year. The score line really does not reflect just how well the young Stockport goalie played against a Wilmslow team who really proved they can play some great attacking lacrosse.
A difficult week for Wilmslow overall with low availability of players across the three men's teams meant that Wilmslow had a shorter bench than usual but the club successfully fielded all three teams. The opening 10 minutes of the game saw Wilmslow's finishing on the goal somewhat off but once they got a goal of 2 then the floodgates opened. Huge credit to the young Stockport goalie who was incredible in the cage and absolutely fearless, a real credit to the Stockport club and certainly a player to watch as he gains experience in the coming seasons. Despite the lion's share of possession in the first period Wilmslow only tallied 4 goals from Andrews, Brooks and a brace from Burgess.
The second quarter saw Wilmslow far more clinical in front of the goal with 7 goals and Stockport would also upping their work rate to score their first on man up before former England star Chris Bland. Although the score at the half was 11-2, Stockport showed some great hustle and would rally hard in the third quarter which gave Stockport their best period which was 4-2 to Wilmslow.
Both teams were light on substitutes but Wilmslow's fitness shone the last 20 minutes of the game and they found another gear to finish the game with a 7 goal quarter.
