Third Team Fall Short vs Stockport B

Third Team Fall Short vs Stockport B

Wilmslow B travelling to Cale Green with what might have been the strongest team we have fielded this season. With players returning from injury and availability this weekend, it's far to say we thought we'd take the win.

Mike Abraham took face offs for Wilmslow, a position you'd not normally see him at but he performed brilliantly throughout the game. Having won the first face Wilmslow had a nice settled possession before Stu Craig finished from close range having rolled the crease from behind. Stockport soon scored, wide open on a cut. Long pole Jay Jones returning from a 3 month absence charged forward on the clear to throw a fake pass then scoring to take Wilmslow to 2-1, shortly afterwards some excellent off ball movement gave Craig the opportunity to take his man again to score his second of the quarter. Momentum was lost after the Stockport goalie saved a shot from Perrin that lead to a Stockport break that ended with a goal, a win at the face saw Stockport pull another one back to tie 3-3 then another to go ahead 4-3 at the end of the quarter.

The second period scoring opened with a Stockport fast break to take them to 5-3. A flurry from Wilmslow saw Parry dodge his man and find Nosch open on the crease 5-4. Tom Miles tied the game up for Wilmslow to go 5-5 but another Stockport fast break saw them score again the a man up for Stockport would result in them finding the top score of the Wilmslow net. Then another for the Cale Green men to lead 8-5 at the half.

The third quarter started well for WIlmslow with a goal from Henry Philips in only his 2nd game at the club, Wilmslow were score again during then quarter but Stockport hit a purple patch which had them going in to the forth 13-7.

The forth quarter saw Wilmslow play some of their best lacrosse since the opening 10 minutes. Craig's assist to Gorski, Perrin feed to a long Parry cut, a Wilmslow man up that saw Gorski score top corner. A Mike Abraham face off win and Wilmslow called a timeout with just 3.30 left on the clock, they came out and scored within 30 seconds, an face off win and Wilmslow scored again. But the last 2 minutes saw Wilmslow unable to get the goal they desperately needed.

Another great performance from Jon Cuming in not only his first season in goal but his first season playing lacrosse. Jones looked solid another such a long time out, Abraham may have found his calling at the face off X and Craig along with Philips and Gorski all had solid games and are improving with each outing.
