Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing team sports in the world, and if you’ve watched a game it’s easy to see why. Action-packed, fast and high scoring, lacrosse is unlike any other sport. It is a game with a long tradition and a captivating history, yet the game is extremely dynamic and modern. Lacrosse is genuinely addictive - Once you’ve picked up a lacrosse stick you will find it hard to put it down! Wilmslow Lacrosse Club is a friendly family-oriented club and we welcome new members. If you’ve never played lacrosse before, or if you are thinking of returning after a break away from the sport, please feel free to get in touch or come down to a game or training session to find out more. What you need to start In order to play or train all players must have appropriate protective equipment that comprises of: gloves, helmet and chest protection for boys/men and gum shield for girls/ladies. If you are a beginner and don’t have any lacrosse equipment of your own, the club has equipment which you can borrow. For training on Astroturf, tennis shoes or trainers are suitable. Matches are played on grass pitches where studs are needed and football or rugby boots are suitable. Junior Training & Matches Junior lacrosse training is held on Thursday evenings on the Astroturf at our sports ground in Styal (SK9 4HP), usually starting at 6.00pm for our youngest members. Matches take place each Saturday morning (10.00am) for boys and Sunday mornings (10.30am) for girls throughout the season which runs from late September to April. Home games are played on our pitches at the Club in Styal, near Wilmslow. Our qualified coaches are mainly experienced players and ex-players and are committed to providing quality coaching in a relaxed and encouraging style, our younger team members being coached by or Local Development Officer Patrick (Ricky) Evans. Rickey’s profile is available via the LDO link on the left hand side of the home page. Unlike many other games, lacrosse suits players of all sizes, and skill is more important than physical strength, giving all players an equal chance to excel on the field. In junior games, all players will get the chance to take part in games as soon as they feel comfortable. The club has an English Lacrosse Association approved Child Protection Policy in place, full details of which are available for you to download Senior Training & Matches Senior Men and Ladies training is also held on the Astroturf Thursday evenings from 7.30pm with matches played on Saturdays afternoons (2.00pm). Both Junior and Senior players compete in the North of England Men’s Lacrosse Association (NEMLA) and North (Ladies) League and Cup competitions.
